#40 – How to be a Great Marketer

Dec 18, 2024Dec 17, 2024 Judi-mae Alderton - Mae Day Marketing

💪🏻🧡👑

As we wrap up nearly 40 weeks and 16,000 words of insights, strategies, and reflections, today’s Wisdom Wednesday is all about bringing it full circle: the inherently important qualities that make a great marketer.

Last week’s penultimate post was about the things you need to do, this week’s is about who you need to be. Whether you’re new to the field or a seasoned pro, here are some insights into what I’ve learned in over 20 years of marketing:

💡 Creativity – Try and always think beyond the obvious. Great marketing starts with bold ideas and solutions that capture attention and stand out. No lemmings allowed ✌🏻

💡 Adaptability – The industry moves fast. As a person, staying flexible and being open to change keeps you ahead of the curve and somebody that can make the right decisions for a client.

💡 Empathy – Understanding your audience on a deep level can really get you places. Be someone who connects needs and emotions, building trust and engagement in your skills and knowledge.

💡 Data-Driven Thinking – Numbers tell a story. You don’t need to be rain main to pay attention to analytics, using data to guide your strategies and prove your impact.

💡 Collaboration – Marketing doesn’t work in isolation. You’ll have to be somebody who can build strong relationships with sales, design and leadership teams.

💡 Patience – Success doesn’t happen overnight. Trust the process, stay consistent, and let your work speak for itself 😍

💡 Curiosity – Never stop learning. Stay curious about new trends, tools and perspectives to grow your expertise.

💡 Resilience – Marketing can be really tough and when cut-backs are made in a business, it’s most probably going to effect you. Learn from setbacks, bounce back stronger and celebrate your wins! 🎉

💡 Kindness to Yourself – Burnout is real and a definite threat. Take regular breaks, recharge yourself and remember that your worth isn’t tied to your workload.

💡 Knowing Your Value – Great marketers bring immeasurable value to businesses. Recognise and advocate for what you bring to the table 💪🏻

As this series comes to an end, I hope you’ve found value in these posts. My goal has always been to share practical advice, spark ideas and remind you to believe in your abilities – no matter where you are in your marketing journey. You can find the full back catalogue here 👀

Here’s to continuing to 𝗥𝗲𝘃𝗼𝗹𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗶𝘀𝗲 𝗬𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗕𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗠𝗮𝗲 𝗗𝗮𝘆 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗸𝗲𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 in 2025 and beyond! 👑

#39 – Reflecting on Lessons from My Journey

Dec 11, 2024 Judi-mae Alderton - Mae Day Marketing

👑🧡👑

With over 20 years of experience in marketing and communications, I’ve learned that success in this field is about more than just strategies and campaigns – it’s about connecting with people, staying adaptable, and constantly evolving.

As we approach the final Wisdom Wednesday next week, I wanted to reflect on some of the most valuable lessons I’ve gained during my career and share them with you 🧡

📖 1. Know Your Audience

Understanding your customers isn’t optional – it’s essential. Every effective marketing campaign starts with knowing who you’re talking to, what they care about and how you can solve their problems.

🔄 2. Embrace Change

Marketing trends move fast. Over the years, I’ve witnessed the rise of social media, AI-driven tools and a very noticeable evolution in consumer behaviour. Staying curious and open to new technologies and techniques has been vital.

🤝 3. Build Relationships

Marketing is a long game. Whether it’s creating meaningful content, engaging on social media or nurturing leads, building trust and fostering connections is key to achieving sustainable growth.

💡 4. Learn from Mistakes

No strategy works perfectly every time. I’ve learned that every setback holds a lesson, and in turn, every pivot is an opportunity to grow stronger and smarter.

🎨 5. Creativity Wins

Standing out means daring to be different. From designing standout campaigns to finding innovative ways to connect with audiences, creativity remains at the heart of successful marketing.

📈 6. Measure and Adapt

The best campaigns are built on data. Keeping track of what works and being willing to adjust strategies based on results has been a game-changer for me and my clients.

📌 7. Stay True to Your Brand

Consistency builds trust. Over the years, I’ve seen how aligning messaging and values across all channels creates a powerful, recognisable brand. I used to speak as ‘Mae Day Marketing’ in the 3rd person, but I soon realised my business was wholly ME, so I shifted my stance. Be real to who you are.

As this series nears its end, I want to thank everyone who has followed along, shared insights, and asked questions!

It’s been really fun to write and share these posts, and I hope that you have found some value in them.

✨ Wishing everyone a wonderful close to 2024 👑

#38 – Using Marketing to Support Sales

Dec 4, 2024 Judi-mae Alderton - Mae Day Marketing

🤑💸💷

Welcome to this week’s edition of Wisdom Wednesdays! This is the last of 3 remaining features – ever (that’s right, I won’t be doing one on Christmas Day! 🤣).

Today I thought I’d talk about something I’ve been doing throughout my entire career – using my marketing skills to directly support a company sales function.

The two departments work better when they work together 💪🏻

Here are some powerful ways to make sure you align marketing and sales for success:

1️⃣ Design Collaterals: Use the design skills available within your marketing function to create impactful brochures, leaflets and sales kits for your team. They provide tangible resources that reinforce your messaging when customers are indecisive.

2️⃣ Targeted Emails: Don’t just use e-mails for marketing messages. Create tailored emails for the sales team, from introducing them to cold prospects to helping to re-engage them with past pitches. Personalised communication can make all the difference.

3️⃣ Boost Brand Awareness: Strengthen your PR and branding efforts so that prospects recognise your brand name before the sales team even begins the conversation.

4️⃣ Merchandise Matters: Equip your team with branded stationery, clothing, or promotional items so that they can leave a lasting impression.

5️⃣ Statistical Insights: Leverage your demographic data to identify target markets and persona types, helping sales focus their efforts on the most promising leads.

6️⃣ Event Support: Create event-specific materials like banners, handouts or branded gifts to maximise your sales team’s presence over your competitors at events.

7️⃣ Web Content: Align your website messaging with sales needs by highlighting unique selling points or customer testimonials that seal the deal.

8️⃣ Lead Qualification: Use marketing analytics to provide the sales function with insights on warm leads, saving them time and increasing conversion rates.

9️⃣ Sales Presentations: Work with the sales team to design professional and visually compelling presentations.

🔟 Case Studies: Create real-world success stories showcasing your products or services in action. Sales teams can use these to build credibility, plus it’ll bring them closer to the customer in question.

Summary: Marketing isn’t just about visibility; it’s a vital partner to sales. By combining strategic insights with creative outputs, you can drive real results.

#37 – Tips for using Chatbots & AI

Nov 27, 2024 Judi-mae Alderton - Mae Day Marketing

🤖⚙🐱‍🏍

Welcome to my Wisdom Wednesday Post #37, where I’m going to talk about the future of customer service and where I think it lies: in Chatbots and AI!

You may have already noticed this start to happen in your personal, every day interactions with companies. As technology advances, integrating AI into customer interactions is going to be a new way to transform the way businesses provide support, streamline processes and enhance satisfaction.

Love it or loathe it, AI can provide quicker responses to humans, at often a fraction of the cost. So I thought it may be a good idea to talk about how to use it effectively, especially in your customer service communications.

Here are some insights on leveraging chatbots and AI effectively:

1️⃣ 24/7 Availability: Provide instant responses anytime, ensuring customers always feel supported. Humans may not be able to do that, so you’re actually offering a better service.

2️⃣ Quick Answers to FAQs: Automate repetitive queries, freeing up human agents for more complex tasks that require dedicated resource.

3️⃣ Personalised Interactions: Use AI to tailor responses based on customer data and preferences.

4️⃣ Seamless Handover: Ensure bots escalate issues smoothly to human representatives when needed. This is paramount to maintain your customer relationships!

5️⃣ Cost Efficiency: Be aware that AI and chatbots can very much reduce operational costs while improving response times, if you get things right.

6️⃣ Scalability: Handle multiple conversations simultaneously during busy periods.

7️⃣ Feedback Collection: Automate surveys and gather insights for service improvements.

8️⃣ Multi-Channel Integration: Deploy AI across platforms like websites, social media and messaging apps.

9️⃣ Continuous Learning: Train AI models to improve accuracy and response quality over time.

🔟 Enhanced Accessibility: Use chatbots to make services more inclusive with multilingual or voice-to-text options.

Integrating AI into customer service doesn’t just benefit your business and / or save you money – it can create a better experience for your customers, helping you build trust and loyalty.

You just have to get it right 👑

#36 – Cohesive Marketing for Rebranding

Nov 20, 2024 Judi-mae Alderton - Mae Day Marketing

💡🎨✏

Welcome to this week’s Wisdom Wednesday, where we dive into rebranding! Rebranding is an exciting opportunity to refresh your business, but its success depends on consistent and strategic marketing.

Here are some essential tips to help you navigate a seamless rebrand:
1️⃣ Define Your Purpose: Clarify why you’re rebranding – it is to modernise, reflect new values, or target a different audience? Understanding your “why” ensures your efforts have clear direction.

2️⃣ Conduct an Asset Audit: Review everything tied to your brand, from your logo and website to business cards and email signatures. Make a spreadsheet or tick list! This ensures no outdated elements are forgotten.

3️⃣ Establish Visual Guidelines: Develop a style guide that outlines the things you want to keep: colours, fonts, imagery and / or overall look. This will enable you to keep your brand identity consistent despite the rebrand.

4️⃣ Craft Unified Messaging: Make sure to align your tone of voice, slogans and core messaging across all mediums in order to reflect your rebrand authentically.

5️⃣ Plan a Comprehensive Launch: Create excitement with a launch campaign, explaining your reasons for rebranding. Use social media teasers, email announcements and blog posts to share the story.

6️⃣ Update All Platforms: Roll out changes everywhere – on social media, your website, Google Business Profile, product packaging, as well as any touchpoints your customers interact with.

7️⃣ Involve Your Team: Train employees on the new branding to ensure they represent it effectively in customer interactions and communications.

8️⃣ Engage Your Audience: Encourage your customers to share their thoughts and become part of the rebrand journey. They’ll appreciate the inclusivity!

9️⃣ Monitor Progress: Use analytics and feedback to track how well the rebrand resonates and make tweaks as needed to improve its impact.

🔟 Stay True to Your Values: Ensure your rebrand reflects and strengthens your core mission rather than veering too far from your identity.

Rebranding is a journey of transformation, and with the right approach, it can set the stage for future success while keeping your audience engaged and loyal 💪🏻
